LADY LION'S HISTORY

In 1964, the ERIE LIONS, started the first hockey program in Erie.  In 1968, the wives and girlfriends of the Erie Lions started the first women's team, ERIE LIONETTES, in Erie but their career was short lived.  There was no equipment for the ladies and competition was only in Canada and extremely tough.  It was not until 1993, that girls' hockey in Erie was reborn.  With the first girl's tournament at the Igloo Ice Arena and the first ERIE LADY LIONS team to soon follow, girls' hockey in the area got a roaring start. In 2004, at the suggestion of the EYHA (their home association), the ERIE LADY LIONS formed their own association, ERIE LADY LIONS GIRLS HOCKEY ASSOCIATION.  It is only appropriate that the new association's inaugural season be the same year as the 40th anniversary of the ERIE LIONS.  The coaching staff includes several original ERIE LIONS and an original ERIE LIONETTE. The association is proud of it's graduates over the last 11 years.  ERIE LADY LIONS graduates have found theeir names on the rosters of Utica College, UNH, Cornell, Penn State University, St. Olaf, Buffalo State, RMU, Chatham,...just to name a few.  Hear them roar.

The ERIE LADY LIONS (19U) rosters players ages 19-13 who wish to play on a top competitive team where the goal is to be the best player you can be. The Lady Lions play in the Southwestern Girls Hockey League of Ontario. The Brantford, Brampton, Connecticut Polar Bear, Rochester and the Erie Sarah Backstrom Tournaments are attended yearly so that players can be exposed to college and prep school coaches. The Erie Lady Lions tout being *back to back PAHL League Champions, 1999 Mid-Am Western Pa. Sectional Champions, 2000 Brampton Gold Medalists, 2000 SWGHL Silver Medalists, 2002 AND 2003 Brantford Gretzky Gold Medalists, 2003 Mid-Am District Silver Medalists, and 2003 South Western Girl's Hockey League of Ontario Eastern Conference Season and Playoff Champions just to name a few. For 2003-4, Silver Medalists in the Connecticut Polar Bear Tournament, Tournament champions of the Niagara Invitational, Silver Medalist in the Sarah Backstrom.

The Brantford and Erie Sarah Backstrom Tournaments are a great time for all the girls and their families. 2003-03 took the girls to the GLGHL in New York. The team is the 2003 GLGHL Season Champions.

The ERIE LADY LIONS (16U)  offers all girls ages `13-16 the opportunity to play hockey in a recreational program. All girls are welcome regardless of skill or experience for these recreational teams. TIM HORTON'S TIMBIT MINOR HOCKEY FOR GIRLS AND BOYS

TIM HORTON'S TIMBIT MINOR HOCKEY

APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE AT ANY ERIE TIM HORTON LOCATION OR E-MAIL US AT erieladylions@earthlink.net FOR MORE INFORMATION AND TO REGISTER.

Background – Why the “Timbit” program?

ELLGHA recognized the need for minor hockey to focus more time on skill development and overall “fun”and less emphasis on games, especially at the younger ages. The program is for girls and boys ages 4-12 who want to experience the sport of ice hockey with an emphasis on learning and fun.  Sessions start Sept. 16. The emphasis on travel hockey has taken away the recreational game...the game that is played just for the love and fun of the game.

Background – When was the new “Timbit” program introduced?

  • Concerns about the existing program became a focus for ELLGHA during the 2005/2006 season. The program is 20 1 hr. sessions held on Saturday mornings at the Igloo Ice Arena from 9-10AM for TIMBIT I (ages 4-6) and TIMBIT II (ages 7-10) from 10-11AM.  There is no hockey on holidays as we feel that is family time. .

Cost of the program-$80 per season for TIMBIT I and $100 for TIMBIT II.  Includes use of equipment and skates as available. Each player gets a TIMBIT jersey and medal as well as opportunities to skate at the Ottter's game.

  1. To create an environment that encourages both more fun and improved fundamental skill building

  2. To provide more quality ice time for new players within our existing fee schedule and ice availability

  3. 3. Provide USA Hockey certified coaches with background checks for the safety of your player.

  Be the Goose!

Be the Goose!

“A team should be an extension of the coach’s Personality. My teams are arrogant and obnoxious”
Al McGuire - Marquette University Basketball Coach
FACT 1: As each Goose flaps its wings, it creates an "uplift" for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.
People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going more quickly and easily because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.

They say that sports imitates life. Nothing proves that more than the interaction of hockey players within the “THE TEAM”

The “Goose Story” shows how Sports imitates Life.

FACT 2: When a Goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.
If we have as much sense as a Goose we stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others.

FACT 3: When the lead Goose tires, it rotates back into the formation and another Goose flies to the point position.
It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership. As with Geese, people are interdependent on each other's skills, capabilities and unique arrangements of gifts, talents or resources.

FACT 4: The Geese flying in formation honk to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups where there is encouragement, the production is much greater. The power of encouragement (to stand by one's heart or core values and encourage the heart and core of other) is the quality of honking we seek.

FACT 5: When a Goose gets sick, wounded or shot down, two Geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it dies or is able to fly again. Then, they launch out with another formation or catch up with the flock.
If we have as much sense as Geese, we will stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong.
